The best vines to grow on a trellis is your climbing vines. Vines are used over doorways and as accents in your garden, especially where other plants will not grow.
You can use annual vines, that grow very quickly. But these will only last one time a season. Morning Glory's grow ten feet in two months and are very pretty. They are the best choice for sun or partial shade, and love moist soil.
Your perennials will of course come back time after time. Hydrangea is one that grows quickly, and does great in partial shade and moist soil.
There are benefits to climbing vines, they disguise unattractive areas around the home, and look great in areas that plants will not grow in. They add a accent to your mailbox or fence post as well. They do great just about any where even in a rock garden or up along side a stone wall. They add color and grace just about any place. They are easy to grow, and need little maintenance.
