Mixing clearners with Bleach

If you do laundry you know that bleach removes most stains and whitens. Bleach is also good for killing bacteria on most surfaces. Bleach is the main cleaning ingredient in just about every home today. However when used with other cleaners, bleach can be extremely corrosive, and highly reactive. This mixture can be toxic and can cause someone serious injury.

Ammonia is one such ingredient. Although used to clean windows, you do not want to ever mix it with bleach. If you do you are creating a chloramine gas, that can cause you respiratory illnesses. Did you know that since urine contains ammonia, you should not use bleach to clean a toilet bowl or urinal.

If using a rust remover, remember that this cleaner contains phosphoric acid. When you mix acid with bleach, it makes a chlorine gas. If this gas is mixed with water you create a hydrochloric acid. These gases will irritate your eyes as well as your nose. It can also burn your skin and lungs.

Even cleaners that state they are benign or mild can still be very dangerous if you mix it with bleach. Vinegar or lemon juice, is even dangerous to mix with bleach, because they are a acid. This mixture will also create a chlorine gas, that will cause respiratory injuries and burns.

The safest thing to mix bleach with is Water, and Water only.
