School and Violence

Teachers today not only have to teach their lession plans, they have to deal with social problems, that we're uncommon in previous generations.  In schools today violence is a real and present part of what our children have to deal with. Once our children are on school grounds, we depend on those officals to deal with any appearance of violence and to quickly and efficiently defuse it. With the bully's and the violence, a once dynamic place to learn can become a gladiatorial pit.

We want our school officals to be aware of low grade bullying. This today is more than just a case of social development gone very wrong. What others don't realize is, that children suffer from bullying, psycologicaly and physically. When someone in school see's this going on, they should take it upon themself to immedialtey contact a school administrater or notify the child's parent's. Anyone that let's bullying go on, is only letting further destructive events to happen.

There is no real known fact, as to why bullying happens. It can be for a wide range of reasons. From, for no reason at all, to children coming forth with their sexual identity, to racial reasons. But for what ever reason it is, our schools should be a safe place for our children at any grade level. Bullying can start as early as kindergarten, and progress as the level heightens.

In schools, our children should have a safe zone to go to. A classroom that can be their sancturay, until the issue can be resolved. Our schools should let our children know, that no matter what their race, or sexual identity is, or what their physical appearance is, they are safe, and bullying will not be tolerated.

As a parent, this can be our worse nightmare. Knowing something is happening to our child, and we are not there to protect them. It is a sad situation, but we can prepare our children, in the event it could happen to them. It's not the most favorite topic to talk about with your child, but it may help them in the long run. Preparing your child can help them to react in the event of a violent situation, and also save their life.

As the grade levels go up, the chance of violence in the school rise's. Go over and explain various incidents with your child, and what they can do, if anything to escape a violent situation. It's sad, but we must as parents inform our children of what is going on in today's society.

Talk over a plan of action with your child, in a case of school violence. Sad, once again to say, but go over cases, that cover everything from a possible shooting to a harmful gang related incidence.

Teaching them, that just by hiding underneath a desk or table or locking of a door, may not only safe their life, but someone else's. Teach your child at a early age, to know how to use the phone to call 911.

Be aware of your schools, policy on bullying, and their practices in the event of such emergencies, that have to do with violence.

Teach your child to consider other childrens feelings, and emotions.

But most important teach them to be as safe as possible.
