Homemade Cat food

Although I do not own cat's, my son does. So I wanted to share and be fair and place some recipe's for cat food also.

Kitty Kat Gumbo

Mix, save, and store !
  • ½ pounds wild shrimp (fresh, if possible or frozen, never canned)
  • ½ pound celery, coarsely chopped
  • ½ pound sweet potatoes, coarsely chopped
  • ¼ pound yellow squash, coarsely chopped
  • ¼ pound collard greens, chopped
  • ounces canned clams with juice
  • ounces whole oats
  • tablespoon kelp powder
  • to 6 cups spring water

Combine all of the ingredients in a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover.

  • Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender.

  • Remove from the heat and let cool.

  • Blend all the ingredients into a nice puree. With an electric hand mixer, or using a food processor and working in batches.

  • Use Ziploc bags or plastic yogurt containers, to make up meal-sized portions and freeze whatever you won’t use within 2 days.

  • Makes approximately 20 servings (1/2 cup per serving)

  • Furry Tuna Treats

    • 1 cup whole wheat flour
    • 6 oz/180 ml can tuna in oil, undrained
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (you can use fat left over from meat cooking if preferred)
    • 1 egg
    Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

  • Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl.

  • Knead the dough. If it become a little too dry or thick, add drops of water until improved.

  • Roll the dough out on a floured surface. Press down to about 6mm/1/4" thick.

  • Make or cut small shapes suitable for cat size treats. Play around with the shapes until you're happy with them.

  • Set the shapes out on a lined baking tray/sheet.

  • Pop in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the treats become firm.

  • Remove from the oven. Cool on a wire cooling rack.

  • Store in an airtight container.
