Dog treats can be expensive sometimes. So if you like to bake why not bake or make your own. That way also you know they are healthy ingredients. Some recipes are even safe for humans, to eat.
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 stick margarine, softened
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

- 1 cup (4 oz) shredded cheddar cheese
- 2/3 cup wheatgerm
- 1/2 lb bacon, cooked crisp, drained, and crumbled
- Combine flour, soda and salt; mix well and set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg and vanilla.
- Add flour mixture, mixing well. Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake at 350ºF/180ºC for 16 minutes.
- Cool on baking sheet for a minute or so before removing to cooling rack
Begin with 2 1/2 cups of pre-cooked, boneless, lean meat such as venison, lamb, chicken, turkey or venison. The meat can be cooked any way when making dog food, including boiled, steamed, or fried with a small amount of oil. Remove any skin, drippings or fat after cooking. Allow the meat to cool slightly, then chop the meat into small pieces. Set the meat aside.
Prepare 2 cups of cooked rice. Use white or brown rice, although brown rice may be helpful if your dog has digestive problems. Alternatively, substitute mashed potatoes, oatmeal, barley or cooked macaroni in place of rice. Cook the rice, potatoes or macaroni a few minutes longer than you normally would, as the food should be soft for easy digestion.
Puree 1 1/4 cups of cooked vegetables and fruits, mixed at a ratio of approximately one part fruit to three parts vegetables. Select vegetables and fruits according to availability and your dogs preferences. Try foods such as carrots, beans, peas, apples, pears or berries. Use fresh, frozen or canned vegetables or fruit, but if the food is frozen or canned, it must be sugar-free. Puree the cooked fruit and vegetables in your blender or food processor.
Place the chopped meat, cooked rice and pureed vegetables and fruit in a large mixing bowl. Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1 1/2 tablespoons of canola oil or olive oil.
Stir the mixture thoroughly, then divide the dog food into serving-sized portions. Place the portions in airtight containers, then store the portions in the refrigerator until serving time.
Birthday Cake for Fido
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour (bleached flour is not that healthy for dogs.)
- 1tsp of baking soda
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1tsp of vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
- 1 pack of plain yogurt
First, get all the ingredients listed above. Double them if you want a really large cake for canine guests.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C)
Take a large bowl and mix together the whole wheat flour and baking soda. Add the remaining ingredients too.
Mix together well, or until the cake batter is smooth.
Spray the ring mold tin that you will bake the cake in, or maybe a bone-shaped cake tin that you can buy from pet birthday sites).
Put the cake batter into the mold.
Bake for 40 minutes.
Frost this cake with peanut butter and yogurt for frosting and carrot strips to decorate. Make sure the carrot tips are cut in thin pieces.
Cut a slice of the cake for your pup, and give it to her while singing "Happy Birthday."
Doggies also love ice cream and all you need is to take a tea cup and mix together yogurt and peanut butter. Pop it out of tea cup when frozen.
