Healthy Snack Tips "Did you know"

All us mom's have been through this. You are shopping in the store, and the little one start's to throw a fit. "Mommy" I am hungry. And the next thing you know he/she is eating some cheeze doodles. Orange fingers, and a belly full of fat is what they just got.

Learning to give healthy treats can be confusing. For packaged snacks it is best to find one's that are whole grain, and sugar and salt as less as possible. The best way to control the packaged snacks is not to offer them to often. Because finding the right ones can be difficult. Those gummy candies are another snack that can be deceiving. Offer them occasionaly also.

Did you also know that a whole grain donut with glaze has 19 grams of fat. And that it is better to give the kids a eclair instead at 15 grams of fat.

 Organic snacks are the best way to go if you can get the kids to start eating them. Not only are they healthy for the kids, but they are better for our planet.

If you are craving those cheese puffs why not go natural, with white cheddar puffs.

Learning to make your own snacks is another way to assure what's going in those precious belly's. You can make a trail mix, by mixing almonds, walnuts, and dried fruits and some low sugar cereals.

 If the kid's like banana's how about packing some dried banana chips for lunch snacks.

A fun snack to make with the kids, is Edamame. Cook the edamame until tendar, and then let the kids pop them out of their pods. The more involved the kids are, the better chance you have of changing their eating habits.

If your little one does like veggies, how about some kid friendly hummus. Some raw carrots, celery and bell peppers is a great choice.

For crackers, there are alot of whole grain one's on the market today.

One snack you will always find in my fridge is some hard boiled eggs. My little one loves these. She will pick these over most other snacks in the house.

Apple slices, with peanut butter is another great snack idea.

Whole wheat tortilla chips with some melted cheese and mild salsa is a healthy fat snack.

A good calcium snack can be low fat yoguart. And today they make some great kid friendly flavors.

In your health food stores or grocery stores you can now find freeze dried fruits. They provide the same nutrients as fresh fruit.
