Camping and Cooking Recipe tips

It's one thing to cook for a crowd at home, but try doing it while you are camping. Well it can be done, believe it or not. I want to share some easy dishes and tips with you.
Let's start with a breakfast, like French toast bits. They are easy and very quick to make. Tear up hamburger or hot dog buns, dip in your egg wash, and fry them up over your campfire. And why not serve them with some frozen hash browns or tater tots you brought from home. You can even mix some eggs with these potatoes for another type of meal. If your gonna mix the eggs with the taters why not add some crumbled pre cooked bacon. Scrambled eggs with tomatoes or other veggies is a crowd pleaser also.

Serving some cereal with fresh fruit won't kill anyone either. It's fast and easy if you have a big day planned.
Now lunch, how about some assorted sandwiches quartered and served with your favorite chips, and pickles or veggies and some dip. You can even make ahead a big pot of stew before you head out, then just warm it up with some biscuits when you return. How about some beans and franks, that's always a camp favorite.

  • Like cornbread, how about making some in a dutch oven over your coals, then serving it with some made ahead chili that can also be warmed over your coals. This is a great meal for dinner. Drumsticks, chicken as well as turkey made with some of your best BBQ sauce, in a skillet over your fire is a nice dinner. Make a nice fresh salad, or some baked potatoes on the fire and you have a great meal. One of my favorites is a big pot of pasta made by boiling the water over my campfire than adding some sauce brought from home or even using jarred. Served with a nice salad and some garlic bread, made in my skillet. This is always a hit.
