Hanging Plant tips

I love my hanging plants, in the front of my home, and throughout my yard as well. They add color to any room indoors also, and looks especially great in a sun room. Hanging baskets, come in wire or moss now, and that gives it a nice earthy look.

It's just important to make sure you are placing them in the right area.

Some plants that do well hanging are your impatiens, geraniums, fuchsia, and begonias.

One of my favorites is the new guinea impatiens, they have great color and are so easy to care for. The soil for these has to be one that will drain well. They also do best placed where they will get the morning sun, but sheltered from any wind and the afternoon sun. Water temp for them should be around 75 degrees. And the best time to water is in the morning.  You should also fertilize them every two weeks. The trailing impatiens make great bedding plants as well, and can handle the summer heat.

The ivy geranium is another great plant for your hanging basket. The plant comes in so many colors, that include pinks, and scarlets, as well as white and salmons. This plant is good from late may to avoid frost, this can damage the plant. The plant will flower until the middle of October. They need full sun only until the start of April. They do their best in 65 to 89 degree warmth. Good drainage is also needed, with fertilizing every other week.

Another favorite is fuchsias, they do very well in hanging baskets. The colors are in a wide variety also. They do need some extra care with regular fertilizing until they flower. And also need acidic soil. These plants do not do well in heat. The temp should stay about 75 in the day and 65 in the evening. I like these for indoors rather than outdoors.

Many others, favorite picks are the wax begonias, due to being able to tolerate full sun as well as full shade. The soil they need must be able to retain moisture, and should include crystals for good drainage. The best temp for these are 60 for daytime and 70 for evenings. However they will not last if there is frost. They also need protection from wind.
