Kids and Brushing their teeth

Childrens dental hygiene is a important part of them growing into healthy adults. They need to learn early to brush, floss, and rinse. Teaching them this will help prevent cavities and disease that causes tooth loss. Brushing and doing other oral hygienes, together with your child is a good example for them.

Baby steps. You should clean your childs baby teeth at least twice a day with a soft washcloth. This should be done at first eruption. Babies teeth enamel is thinner than adults. And by consistent cleaning will help prevent them from getting cavities. All you need is water and a pea size drop of fluoride toothpaste. This also provides a soothing feeling for those inflamed gums during the teething process. When two teeth start touching each other, you should get your baby used to floss. This helps keep bacteria from forming between them. By one years old, they should have their first dental checkup.

Three year olds can brush their own teeth. They just need to be taught how to go in a circular motion, and how to rinse with water. Brushing should be supervised until they are six or seven years old to provide proper teeth care. Since our children love to imitate us, make brushing time with your child fun, showing them the proper technique. By three teach them to also floss on their own. It is also a good idea to replace your toothbrush every six months. And to increase the size as your childs age grows. Brushs with small heads and med bristles are great for children.

Its a good idea to check your childs routine. And go on a plaque attact. Check to see how much plaque they are leaving behind. A quick way is to take a paper cup and add four drops of red food coloring into 2 tablespoons of water. Have them swish it around in their mouth then spit it out. But don't rinse yet, you will see the red spots on their teeth where the plaque is. Then have them brush the spots away.
