If you have something old or worn out, don't throw it away any more, it still may have some use. You may have a old sweater that is torn and wore out, that could be turned into a throw pillow for your couch or chair.
For a funky look, how about taking Dad's old shoe and filling it with stones and applying a fireproof sealant, then using it for a candle holder next to the fireplace. Recycling can be a wonderful way to keep your keepsakes around for many years, and can also give them a new life and meaning. The creativity of the project is up to you, it could be limitless. How about turning those old mason jars into soap dispensers, just by adding a pump to the lid. If you love magnets, how about taking grandma's old jewelry brooch's and creating some great looking fridge magnets. For a great kids room idea, how about taking some old CD cases, and making a wall decor out of them. You can be really creative with that idea by taking some old album covers or photos and trimming them to fit into the cases before mounting them to the wall.
You can be creative beyond your wildest dreams, in any room. The sky is the limit. And if you are on a tight budget, and looking to redecorate, this may be a great way to go. Why not make each room a different theme. Mason jars go very nicely for a country look. If you sew and have some old buttons, just fill the mason jar and place next to a lamp. It's as simple as that. How about taking some old curtains and making some hand towels for the bathroom, or even making some place mats for the kitchen.
Old records can make great accent pieces for candles in your game room or a room that is retro. Burlap sacks can be transformed into a pillow also. That works great in a Western type room. Take a old mirror and place some colored stones on it with a votive candle for the bathroom or living room.
